Last June, it was the 6th of June to be precise; I went down to the Oaks at Epsom Race Course. I had a lovely day, mainly in part to the fact that I won £380 on a £10 each way bet on a horse called Look Here, here I am with my winnings:

In the morning of this quite magnificent day I went to Hombase and got myself one of those fold up chairs to take with me. This was promptly lost in the evening, I've forgotten how this happened but my suspicion is that I left it somewhere in Redhill. I also lost my mobile phone at the fun fair. This was an inconvenience but I really wasn't getting along with the Samsung way, so I've now reverted back to type and got myself a Sony Ericsson T250i... cost me £20 and it's been an absolute dream ever since. So this Samsung, I went on a ride and when I came off it had disappeared, fortunately the £500 odd was still on me; so my annoyance at having mislaid yet another phone was tempered somewhat.

For my dinner that day I had candy floss, nutritious and delicious. On the train home we met a man called Martin. He was a worker at the fair, fixed up the rides and helped set 'em up. He had no teeth and was what a polite person would call "one of these traveler types", or a gypsy. Well, we managed to persuade him to come out drinking with us in Redhill. In the ensuing hours we ended up at the snooker club playing pool, this was where I believe I lost my fold up chair. This was also the juncture that Ben decided to run away. My memory after this point is hazy at best, but I do remember that Martin came back to my house and I tried to make him stay drinking with me; but he kept saying he had work the next day and eventually managed to get away in a taxi.

The next morning I felt rather hung over, but I had to soldier on as we were off to Epsom again for the Derby. First things first I had to go and get another fold up chair. Here I am sitting on this chair and hitting myself with an inflatable hammer that I won the night before:

The Chair, the hammer and me

I got this chair from Squires in Reigate and I am proud to say that I still have it residing in my shed. Now, time rather got away from us in the morning so I drove down to my parent’s house and we walked from there. This saved us having to catch trains and possibly missing the first race, which would have been unacceptable. Once at the race course we met with Ben & Viola Kupper and we had an amble up to pikey hill. Here they are with a balloon that Ben Kupper purchased whilst queuing for the portaloo:

Unfortunately I did not win any races this day, but it didn't matter as I was still up by some considerable margin. After the races we all headed back to mine for a BBQ, which was nice. At some early hour in the morning, we believe between 2am & 4am, Ben Philips and I carried this sofa to Rob Morgan's:

The Sofa in Question

This is the route we took:

Sofa Route

We kept having to stop as it was a bit of a struggle to be honest, but we had the perfect resting place in the shape of the sofa. I'm just glad the police were not about to question our behavior. In order to get the sofa into Rob's we had to take his front door off its hinges, not an easy job at the best of times, let alone for three drunken people in the wee early hours. Nevertheless we managed this task. In the morning I woke up in bed covered in bruises and my arms were knackered from carrying the sofa. I spent the entire day in bed.

On Monday I watched all three Indiana Jones films in a row with Ben and then went to the cinema to see the latest installment. A worthy use of one's time I dare say. It was then back to work on Tuesday. It is true that Derby Day is as good, if not better, than Christmas.
