The Savings Are There For All To See

Got my car tax to renew at the end of this month, the money grabbing bastards was £180 for a year, it's fucking ridiculous. You'd imagine there are not many people who could afford to pay that in one go so what the government do is really nice. They give you the option to buy 6 months worth but at a cost of £99, so over all (if you can't afford top pay the full whack) you are clobbered to the tune of £18 extra over the year. Yeah, that's really nice of you Mr Brown you absolute cunt.

Adding to my woe is the rather unfortunate incident that occurred at lunchtime. Went off to my car all happy, yes that's it pasta and cheese for lunch for me! But no, my passenger rear tyre was flat. Oh how wonderful, I thought, what a treat. I went into my boot to get the necessary spare tyre, nut undoer thing and jack only to discover that the jack was missing. I immediately went back into the building and ordered a cheese baguette. Well, I can't tell you how annoyed I was. Not least because this is my first ever flat in eleven years, my continuity had been disturbed to my utter distain.

Luckily Richard had a jack he kindly lent me and I set about changing the tyre. Could I get the bloody hub cap off? Could I fuck, the bastard was stubborn as a mule I tell you. In the end I managed to force a metal bar underneath it and lever the swine off. I then jacked up, no probs and got everything else done smooth. Putting the nuts back on I got confused about what way round they were supposed to go on so I went to take the hub cap off the front tyre so I could examine the nut arrangement. This again proved bloody awkward, but I did get it off. Putting it back on was even more of a son of a bitch. I kicked the sod back on and it cracked so I gave it several more hard kicks just because it was fucked anyway. This eased my frustrations nicely although I am now annoyed I'll have to get another one.

So all this means I'll be going down to National Tyres and Autocare to get me tyres all checked over and sorted. Just as you finish paying your council tax for the year they pop up with the car tax and then I get bother from my tyres. Nice isn't it?

At uni I did an actuarial course... one of the examples in one of the lectures was that of the 6 month car tax swindle... at the time it worked out equivalent to just under 50% APR. You are effectively "borrowing" half the amount for 6 months... sounds like these days it is £18 for 6 months borrowing of £90... of course you haven't actually used the roads for the second 6 months until you get there so they are charging you for something you can't have possibly used (unless the gov think we all have time machines) and then they are charging you 50% interest for delaying... Makes credit card debt at 20 to 30% APR look like responsible lending... If my maths isn't to rusty then that works out as 44% APR ((1+18/90)^2-1, I think?) from your figures...

Car Tax + (Budget Increases + Credit Card Handling Fee) = A right sodder.

Car Tax + Tyre Problems = Even more of a sodder.

Gordon Brown = Scottish cunt.
